Kingston Architects were engaged to completely transform this run-down property into a premium four bedroom family home complete with garden office/gym.
The concept was to create a relationship between the extension and the garden building by designing them both with a floating corner, with doors opening on two sides and the roof supported by a single slender column.

This three bedroom semi-detached home already had a rear extension, but the new owners required more space and an improved family living layout. The solution was a two-storey side extension combined with a loft extension to provide additional bedrooms.
Utilising both side and rear extensions holistically, we were able to provide a spacious, modern family room at the heart of the home, while upstairs we added two bedrooms, including a master suite in the loft complete with dressing room and Juliet balcony.
Our favourite space, however, is the entrance, with its well- lit cloakroom to the side leading to WC. There's nothing more oppressive than a narrow, restrictive entrance with nowhere to store coats and shoes, and we believe that dedicating a bit of space to this makes all the difference. When you combine this with the vista through from the hall into the family room and through to the garden, it's guaranteed to leave an instant and lasting impression on all who cross the threshold.
