New Builds

DETACHED HOUSE, CLAYGATE

3D render of street scene
Elevation drawing of street scene

Kingston Architects were engaged to design a new detached, four-bedroom residence in Claygate on a plot created by sub-dividing a large side garden.

A key part of the brief was to match the style of the neighbouring houses in order to maximise the chance of a successful planning application. This also necessitated a thorough understanding of the borough's planning guidance in order to achieve all the guidelines around separation distance, plot ratio, accessibility and sustainability.

Kingston Architects were approached by a potential client looking to gain permission to develop an unused strip of land in between other gardens in North Kingston. The concept was to maximise plot value and desirability by creating a family sized (four bedroom) home, whilst also maximising the chances of planning success by keeping it low-lying relative to its neighbours.

This design was exhibited as part of the London Design Festival in an installation organised by the Kingston Society, where practice director Robert Poll got the opportunity to discuss it with the Mayor of Kingston (pictured above). You can read more about this installation on our blog.
